On Sunday 7 May over 300 people took part in the One You Wellbeing Day at Aldershot Garrison Sports Centre, to get tips and support on a range of topics such as getting active, eating well, weight management and how to de-stress.
North East Hampshire and Farnham Clinical Commissioning Group teamed up with Hart District Council, Rushmoor Borough Council and Waverley Borough Council, to organise the festival recognising the shared role in promoting health and wellbeing across our communities.
People were able to try a variety of activities in the Move More Zone with Bollywood dancing, circuits and Korfball proving popular. Many attendees took up the opportunity for their free NHS Health Check for people aged between 40 and 74, to understand their current health profile, and to help them identify changes they could make to improve their health and wellbeing.
Dr Karen Robinson, local GP and Clinical Lead for Prevention and Self Care in North-East Hampshire and Farnham said, “We’ve linked up with the national ONE YOU campaign to empower our community to make and celebrate small or big changes to help everyone feel good and improve their health by taking advantage of all the help available locally. The event was a great success with hundreds of people feeling inspired to be more active, eat healthier foods and make changes to their lifestyle for the better. We are grateful to all the stall holders who came to highlight their services, and also to the activity providers for showing how moving more can also be great fun.”
The wellbeing day marked the start of a two-week festival from Monday 8 to Sunday 21 May. There are lots of free, discounted and low-cost physical activity sessions happening across Hart, Rushmoor and Waverley, to encourage residents to get active. There are a large variety of sessions available including friendly walking groups, beginners running, swimming, exercise classes, walking football, cycling and more.
