The most important things to remember when looking after your own health are to do the basics right i.e. eat well, maintain an active lifestyle and avoid bad foods, drink and activities (i.e. smoking), and to be able to recognise symptoms of certain diseases or conditions.
For women it is equally important that they attend screening appointments when they are invited to attend them. Failure to do so can mean a late diagnosis of a serious condition and a lifetime of pain and complications, or worse.
Anybody with a family history of particular conditions should be especially aware of what to look for and should ensure their doctor is aware of the prevalence within their family.
